End of Summer Update

As summer comes to a screetching halt, I thought I would post an update on some of the events that have happened over the last few weeks that have not made it into my blog. I posted about the unwillingness of Maia not putting her face in the pool back in June. Well, by the beginning of August, we had come a long way! She decided one day that she would get her face wet, and from there, just took off with swimming, floating on her back, putting her face in, jumping in the pool from the side and swimming without her vest! She is quite good at swimming on her back.
Maia floating on her back. She has gotten very good at swimming on her back and will be a backstroker like her momma was!

Going under the water

Harrison finally decided he would go off the diving board. Of course, the day he decided to do this I was not with him, but rather, he was at the pool with my mother in law. Once he started, he couldn't stop. He would jump over and over and then come up swimming and swim under the rope into the other parts of the pool without ever stopping.

Making the jump...

Success! Into the water! No fear at all!

Harrison also learned to dive toward the end of the pool season. His dive was quite funny and actually very good for a newbe. Check out the progression...

What form on a 6 year old!

This one looked like it hurt, which he informed us, it did.

I got a shot of the pretty butterfly trying to get some water during the rainless last few weeks.

My two little guppies

So, this weekend we did our usual jaunt to the pool. With the cooler weather we have had, the water was a bit chilly but it didn't faze the kids one bit. Maia usually swims with a Speedo vest, but Saturday, she got brave enough to face the water without it. She has been working hard at learning to swim (with the face out of course) and was determined to work herself to death swimming from my mom to me. Harrison is practically a fish and has gotten really good at retrieving dive sticks off the bottom of the pool. Can't convince him to take a jump off the diving board though. Maia is hell bent that she is not getting her face wet EVER. These are MY kids!! I grew up at the pool. I was on the swim team at age five until i was 18. How I got a child who doesn't like to get her face wet, I'll never know. Here are some photos from the weekend.

Hanging on for dear life

Swimming to Grandma. Her backside sinks like a ton of lead.

Looks like she is struggling (she wasn't). I guess I could have put the camera down to "save" her. LOL

Can't you just see the fins sprouting from him??

Armed and dangerous!!

Memorial Day Weekend at the Pool

This past Saturday, Memorial Day weekend, the pool that we are members at, opened. Needless to say, the kids were chomping at the bit to go for the first swim of the season. It is usually always pretty cold the first few weeks and this weekend was no exception. The water was frigid. Didn't stop my two though. I didn't even wear my bathing suit. I knew there was NO WAY I was getting in that water. Short of a kid drowning, it just wasn't going to happen for me. I watched kid after kid jump in and swim, then get out literally turning blue. No thanks. My two were right there with the rest of 'em. Here are some photos from their first dip in the pool. As for me... I will wait until the water reaches at least 78 degree before I even dare a swim.

Harrison getting his "Shark Tail" fin on his feet. Pretty cool toy, but he hasn't quite got it figured out yet.

Maia ventures into the kiddie pool. Slowly.

Once again, Maia wins the photo wars with Mom. It is just easier to catch her sitting still I suppose. I thought she looked cute laying in the sun on her towel.
